After 1973 [edit]
After 1973 the format changed to three messages followed by three digits. The typeface was custom made to increase readability, and the plates were fabricated in embossed sheet steel. In January 1984 the plates were changed to plastic with reflective tape on them, still embossed. This caused bug since the record would clothing off and decrease the readability of the plate.
